Collaboration is an essential concept for Red and she tends to see it opposed to competition. This could be a false dichotomy in some situations, of course. The important thing is that ITP does a wonderful job of fostering an environment for maximal creativity, a lab for freedom of the imagination.
As she often says, she encourages students to fail. When they do so, they have learned something, they have taken risks that they probably would not be able to do elsewhere. Failure, according to Red, has alot of value.
