Stefano Hatfield for the on-line version of The Independent goes on-line to find out how good agencies are at advertising their own wares: verdict - not good.
Not surprising seeing as how one of the top creative gurus claims:
"... you can't do your job well if what you care about is selling the clients product."
Just how good are Britain's ad agencies at marketing their own products? Click here to read his review. I did my own little survey and found that the nine agencies reviewed by Hatfield all had one thing in common. Not a single one mentioned revenue, market share or profit on their home page.
Ogilvy & Mather UK was one of the agencies he reviewed. Their main selling point being:
"big ideas. Intelligent ideas. Ideas that spring from a deep understanding of consumer needs and behaviour."
So the take away message is if you have a lot of money to spend and idle time then retain Ogilvy & Mather for that one big idea. Of course it may or may not sell your product.
On the other hand, if you have a limited budget and a tight time frame, and you're a mid-size enterprise bent on waging and winning battles for market share then engage vSente.
